Cataloging Your Possessions

Cataloging Your Possessions

We had some clients that suffered loss in the recent devastating wildfires in Northern CA.  When you have personal property damaged and turn a claim in, you don’t just get a check for the amount of coverage listed on your declarations page.  This is a common misconception.  When you have a loss to your personal property, you will be asked by the company to list all of your items that were damaged, with as much description that you can.

If you’ve never done this, it’s a difficult task to recreate all the items in, let’s say, your kitchen, on paper.

In our modern age of cell phones, everyone has a camera on them and will usually “evacuate” with their phone on them or will grab it when leaving.

One of the best ways to be able to show proof of ownership as well as help our memories with what is in every room, is to do a quick video of each room in your home and then save it to our phone or in the cloud.  That way you will be able to recall the items that you had in your home, or at least have a good start!
