Often called rideshare insurance, these policies will combine the coverage on your vehicle for personal use and the coverage provided by the ride share company. There are things to consider before signing up for passenger, ride sharing or delivery service in California.
- What if you have an accident? Apart from the gas, insurance & maintenance, there is the possible cost of an accident. Make sure you are sufficiently covered with your California auto insurance policy.
- Be sure to disclose to your insurance company that you are driving for ride share company and the usage that you are putting on your vehicle. If you don’t, you may be cancelled if involved in an accident while you are driving.
- Review the coverages with the ride share company because often times the coverage is different if you are waiting for a ride or in the process of carrying a passenger.
- Understand the coverage that may be provided by the service company to know your risks involved. If ride share insurance is not available, you may need a commercial auto policy.
- Always know the definitions of what is covered in your California auto insurance policy and what is or is not covered under the service companies’ policy.
